Terwijl de lente al bijna op zijn einde loopt presenteert LhGWR twee fotografen die zich hebben ondergedompeld in winterse taferelen. Isabella Rozendaal nam voor haar Hunt serie de jachtgebieden van Europa onder de loep en Christian Kryl reisde deze winter voor de derde keer naar St. Moritz om daar de jetset te onderzoeken voor zijn Top of the World project. Beiden werken geruime tijd aan projecten die zij op een documentaire wijze benaderen. Hierdoor komen zij zeer dicht bij hun onderwerp te staan en krijgen hun beelden een verdiepende fijngevoeligheid, die indringend en vol emotie is.
Isabella Rozendaal laat zich voor haar werk, door middel van uitgebreid onderzoek, onderdompelen in subculturen met morbide fascinaties en weet met opvallend gemak de essentie van deze fascinaties bloot te leggen. Keer op keer legt ze paradoxale momenten vast waarop tederheid en naargeestigheid samenvallen. Hierdoor word je als toeschouwer aangesproken op je eigen morbiditeit en wordt je gevoel voor esthetiek tot het maximum opgerekt. Haar brede fotografische oriëntatie en de projectmatige benadering van haar werk zorgen ervoor dat de vele hokjes waarin haar werk past nooit lang beklijven. Ze weet de taalelementen uit verschillende fotografische genres eenvoudig door elkaar te gebruiken, waardoor een eigen hokje het enige passende lijkt te zijn.
Isabella zal bij LhGWR een update presenteren van haar Hunt serie waar ze al geruime tijd mee bezig is. Voor deze serie volgde zij regelmatig cursussen op de Europese jachtvelden.
Christian Kryl, die in 2009 afstudeerde aan de KABK, bedient zich van een uitgebreid onderzoek om zijn werk te verdiepen. Zijn verleden - waarin ieder dubbeltje twee keer werd omgekeerd - heeft gezorgd voor een diepgewortelde fascinatie voor rijkdom en overdaad. Hij ging begin 2009 en begin 2010 enkele maanden naar st. Moritz (waar opzichtige zonnebrillen en extravagante bontjassen het straatbeeld domineren) om daar het uiterlijk vertoon van de financiële elite te portretteren. Hij kwam beide keren terug met wrange esthetische beelden waarin hij feilloos macht en kwetsbaarheid tegen elkaar af wist te zetten. Met een licht cynische ondertoon maakt Kryl de afwezigheid van individualiteit in de openbare ruimte van st. Moritz voelbaar.
Bij LhGWR zal Kryl voor het eerst zijn volledige project 'Top of the World' presenteren aan de hand van een eerste aanzet naar een eigen publicatie.

While Spring is almost at its end LhGWR presents two photographers who have immersed themselves in winterly scenes. For her Hunt series Isabella Rozendaal focussed on the European hunting grounds while Christian Kryl travelled to St. Moritz for the third time to observe the jetset for his Top of the World project. Both work on projects in a documentary way. This gets them really close to their subject and enables them to produce powerfull images full of emotion with an depthning delicacy.
Isabella Rozendaal does extensive research for her work by dunking into subcultures with morbid fascinations. With an astonishing ease she unearths the essence of these fascinations. Time after time she captures paradoxal moments in which tenderness and morbidity entwine.
As a spectator you are confronted with your own morbidity and your feeling of aesthetic is stretched to a maximum. Her broad photographic orientation and the project-based approach ensure that the labels the art critics want to put on her work have no long existence. Her skill to mix elements from different photographic genres is so unique that it can only be labeled as ‘Isabella Rozendaal’.
At LhGWR Isabella will present an update of the Hunt series, on which she is working for some time now. To make this series she frequently followed hunting courses in different places in Europe.
Christian Kryl graduated in 2009 at the Royal Academy. He does extended research for his projects and has an inherent fascination for wealth and excess. This is elaborated in a surprisingly confronting and amiable manner in his images. At the beginning of 2009 and 2010 he went to St. Mortiz (where flashy sunglasses and extravagant fur coats dominate the scene) to portrait the excessive display of the financial elite. Both times he came back with wry aesthetic images in which he flawlessly confronts power and vulnerability. With a slightly cynical undertone Kryl makes the absence of individuality in the public area of St. Moritz feasible.
At LhGWR Kryl will present for the first time the complete 'Top of the World' project, by showing a first version of a publication to be.
