LhGWR presenteert met R.E.A.L. het afstudeerwerk van de vier studenten die dit jaar de Masteropleiding Fotografie van AKV | St. Joost in Breda afronden. De opleiding wordt gekenmerkt door de documentaire benadering van fotografie dat terug is te zien in de projectmatige aanpak van de afstudeerders. Vanuit dit vertrekpunt, waar sociaal engagement naadloos in opgaat, laten zij hun autonome ambities spreken.
Ter inleiding op de tentoonstelling stellen zij allen hun eigen project voor:
Rodrigo Marcondes
“What Happened in Sidi Bouzid”
“What Happened in Sidi Bouzid” onderzoekt een incident dat zich voordeed in Tunesië in december 2010; het onderzoekt de oorzaak van de Arabische lente. Het project reikt een verzameling van waarheden over dit evenement aan, en laat zien hoe gelaagd werkelijkheid in feite is.

"The good/bad world & idealism"
In tijden van crisis is het niet vreemd om te denken dat we een goede dosis idealisme nodig hebben. Maar hoe ziet dit idealisme er vandaag de dag uit in een land met zoveel verschillende meningen? Aan de hand van een verzameld beeldarchief onderzoek ik de dunne lijn die bestaat tussen idealisme en realisme.

"Towards Nature"
Het volgen van mijn hart ervaar ik als noodzaak en de weg die ik hierdoor afleg is wat ik documenteer. Zo kwam ik in de natuur, waar ik stuitte op taferelen die ik niet had verwacht; versteende bomen, gevilde dieren, levende rotsen en een beestachtige mens. Met “Towards Nature” onderzoek ik de aard van de dingen.

"Our Clever Eyes do Easily disguise"
Ik wil mijn publiek getuige maken van het onmogelijke en laten geloven in het irrationele. Our Clever Eyes do Easily disguise bezig met het onderwerp van onzichtbaarheid. De vraag wordt gesteld: hoe zien onzichtbare dingen eruit? Welke rol spelen ze in ons leven? Deze vragen worden beantwoord in een spannend verhaal, dat je meeneemt in mij zoektocht in het land van goden, monsters en spoken ...

LhGWR presents R.E.A.L., the graduationshow of four students from the Master of Photography programm at AKV | St. Joost in Breda. This program is characterized by the documentary approach to photography which is retrievable in the approach of the projects of the graduates. With this as the works’ layer of humus, emphasizing a social engagement, they express their autonomous capabilities and treat us to a show with remarkable insights and powerfull imagery.
As an introduction to the exhibition, they all have their own projects for:

“What Happened in Sidi Bouzid”
“What Happened in Sidi Bouzid” scrutinizes the incident that occurred in Tunisia in December of 2010 and triggered Arab Spring. The project presents a repository of truths about this event, and shows how layered reality in fact is.

In times of crisis it isn’t strange to think we need a proper dose of idealism. But what does this idealism look like when you live in a country with lots of different opinions? Through an archive of collected footage I explore the thin line between idealism and realism.

I feel an ergency to follow my heart and document the route this takes me on. This led me to nature, where I encountered scenes that I did not expect; trees turned to stone, skinned animals, living rock and beastlike man. With "Towards Nature" I examined the nature of things.

I wish to allow my audience to be witnesses to the impossible and believe in the irrational. Our Clever Eyes do Easily disguise deals with the subject of invisibility. The question is posed: what do invisible things look like? What role do they play in our life? These questions are answered in an exciting narrative, which leads you through my quest in the land of gods, monsters and ghosts…
